Varutharacha Meen Curry / Fish in Roasted Coconut Gravy


This fish curry is made with dry roasted coconut gravy and it tastes so yummy and will be a perfect combination for rice, puttu and pathiris. It is an excellent recipe from Kerala. Hope you will enjoy making it

Preparation Time: 15 mins
Cooking Time: 20 mins

Ingredients:


Fish- 1/2 kg ( any fish)
Tamarind- small lemon size
Tomato- 1
Green chilli- 2
Drumstick-1 (optional)
Salt to taste

For roasting:  


Coconut- 1 cup

Onion- 2
Coriander seeds- 2 tbsp
Red chilli- 3
Pepper- 1 tsp
Fenugreek seeds- 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves- 1 spring
Turmeric powder- 1 tsp
Coconut oil-  2 tbsp

Procedure:


1. Take your ingredients.



2. Heat the pan.


3. Add the ingredients for roasting, roast till it becomes golden brown and once it turns brown add coconut oil and turmeric powder.




4. Now mix all together and turn off the heat. Allow it to cool.


5. After its cooled put it in a blender along with tamarind and salt.


6. Grind it to fine paste.


7. Add tomato,drumstick, greenchilli, curry leaves in a kadai and add the grounded masala.
    


8. Add enough water to make the gravy.


9. Bring it to boil.


10. When the gravy is boiling add fish and gently mix well.


11. Cook the curry in high flame for 5 mins then simmer cook for 10 mins. The gravy color changes to dark brown and now turn off the heat.
