During our college days, in between our classes we used to open our lunch boxes and share food between ourselves. We Jelsar, used to sit together in our class. Most of the time we bring non-veg food for lunch. Sometimes when we secretly open the tiffin box, the aroma of the mutton curry spreads over the whole class. And everyone begins to look at us. We give a smile at them and carry on with our business. Obviously we cant miss eating because of these looks, right?
This is the first non-veg recipe I learnt when I began my cooking journey. This mutton curry is a gravy dish. It goes best with Idiyappam, Puttu, Aappam, Oratti, whatever you name it. It also goes well with Ghee Rice ..
Preparation Time: 15 mins
Cooking Time: 30 mins
Serves: 4
Ingredients:
Mutton- 500 gm
Onion- 2
Tomato- 1 big
Ginger Garlic paste- 2 tsp
Chilli powder- 3 tsp
Turmeric powder- 1 tsp
Fennel powder- 2 tsp
Cumin powder- 1 tsp
Coriander powder-2 tsp
Oil- 2 tbsp
Cardamom- 1
Clove- 1
Cinnamon- 1 inch piece
Salt to taste
Coriander and Mint leaves for garnish
Procedure:
1. Clean the mutton well and prepare the ingredients needed for cooking.
2. Heat oil in the pressure cooker and add the whole spices, then saute the onions. When it becomes translucent add the tomatoes and cook on medium heat.
3. When the tomatoes becomes mushy, add the ginger garlic paste. Cook till the raw smell leaves.
4. Now add the mutton.
5. Mix well. At this time the mutton oozes out little water.
6. Add the spices mentioned and salt.
7. Add one and a half cup of water. If you want less gravy then you can reduce the amount of water.
8. Mix well. Adjust the spice according to your taste.
9. Close the lid and cook for 3 whistles. Check whether the mutton is cooked. If it is still hard then add one or two whistles.
Mutton curry is ready to serve.
