Maasi Karuvadu Thovayal / Pounded Dry Fish Thogayal


Maasi thovayal is a quick and no cook side dish. It is almost as same as chutneys except that you are adding the dried fish. I remember at our homes they used to pound the dried fish pieces in a manual stone grinder and prepare this thovayal. Nowadays we get the ready made processed maasi in supermarkets which makes the work a lot easier. 

Preparation Time: 5 mins
No Cooking
Serves: 3

Ingredients:

Maasi/ Dried fish powder - 4 tbsp
Small onions/Shallots- 5 or 6
Coconut- 1/2 cup grated
Dry Red Chilli- 2
Salt as needed

Procedure:

1. Keep all your ingredients ready.


2. Take coconut, dry red chilli and peeled shallots in a blender. Give three pulses. We need it to be coarse.


3. Now add the powdered maasi and the salt required to the blender. Give one more pulse.


4. Mix it well with a spoon.


5. Transfer it to a bowl. Serve it with steamed rice or as a side dish for kanji.
