Keerai thoran is a nutritious recipe from Kerala. In this thoran we add a spicy coconut masala to the spinach. Spinach is a good source of fiber, calcium and iron. I know most of the children doesn't like spinach, this is a simple yet nutritious dish which will be spicy and hope you and your children like it.
Preparation Time: 10 mins
Cooking Time: 15- 20 mins
Ingredients:
Keerai- 1 bunch (of any type, i used arakkeerai)
Shallots- 15
Salt to taste
For tempering:
Oil- 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
Dry red chilli- 1
For thoran masala:
Coconut- 2 tbsp
Turmeric powder- 1 tsp
Red chilli powder- 1/2 tsp
Green chilli- 1
Garlic- 2 cloves
Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
Procedure:
1. Take all your ingredients.
2. Put the ingredients for thoran masala in a blender and grind it to a coarse paste.
3. Heat a kadai, add ingredients for tempering one by one.
4. Now add chopped shallots and keerai and saute well. Cook until the keerai is 3/4 done.
5. Add the thoran masala, mix well and cook for 5 mins. As the keerai gives out water, cook till the water evaporates.
6. Serve with rice.
