Considering your health benefits we are pleased to post this healthy and tasty recipe using bottle gourd. I learned this recipe from my Mom. Try to add this type of foods into your daily diet. Stay healthy.
Preparation Time: 10 mins
Cooking Time: 20 mins
Serving Suggestions: Rice Platter and Chappati.
Ingredients:
Bottle gourd- 2 cup (washed, cleaned and cut into cubes)
Chana dal- 1 tbsp
Cumin seed- 1 tsp
Red chilli powder- 1 tsp
Coconut- 1/2 cup
Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
Garlic- 1 pod
Water- 1/2 cup
Salt to taste
For Tempering:
Oil- 2 tsp
Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
Red chilli- 1
Shallot/Onion- 2 tsp (finely chopped)
Curry leaves- 1 spring
Preparation:
1. Prepare all the ingredients. Soak chana dal for 1 hour.
2. In a pressure cooker add bottle gourd, channa dal and half cup water. Pressure cook them for about two whistles in a medium to high flame. Meanwhile, grind the coconut ( In a mixer, grind coconut, cumin seed, chilli powder, turmeric powder and garlic pod to a coarse paste).
3. Once done transfer it to a kadai. Add chopped onion. (Adding onion is optional,it enhance the taste).
4. Now add the coconut paste.
5. Switch on the flame. Give a good stir.
6. Mix well and cook for some more time.
7. In a kadai, add the ingredients given below tempering one by one.
8. Pour it over the thoran and give a mix.
9. Serve it with a healthy platter shown below.
