Irachi Petti / Meat Box


Irachi Petti is a malabar snack made especially during iftar  (breaking fast in ramadan). This snack can be listed under starter recipes also. The filling is usually made with chicken, beef or mutton but you can try this with vegetable also. Vegetable cannot beat the non-veg filling in this snack. The steps seems to be many but actually its easy to prepare this snack. Me and hubby together prepared this snack,yes he does the folding part for the snack and im sure you all believe that it's real fun to cook with your partner. Serves: 3

Ingredients:

For stuffing:

Boneless Chicken- 250 g
Onion- 1 medium sized chopped
Tomato- 1/2
Green Chilli- 2
Coriander Leaves- few
Curry Leaves- few
Ginger garlic paste- 2 tsp
Chilli Powder- 1 tsp + 1/4 tsp
Coriander Powder- 1.5 tsp
Turmeric Powder- 1/2 tsp
Pepper Powder- 1/2 tsp
Fennel Powder- 1/2 tsp
Garam Masala- 1 tsp
Oil- 3 tbsp
Egg- 1
Milk- 1 tbsp
Salt to taste

For Batter:

All purpose flour/ Maida- 3/4 cup
Water- 1 1/4 cup(approximately)
Salt to taste

Procedure:

1. Prepare all your ingredients.


2. Boil the chicken pieces with little turmeric powder, pepper powder and salt. After it is completely boiled shred the chicken pieces.

3. Heat a kadai and pour oil.  Add onion, green chilli and curry leaves. Saute them till the onion becomes translucent.


4. Add ginger garlic paste and stir till the raw smell leaves.

5. Now add tomato and stir well.


6. Add all the masala powders, salt and saute for few mins.


7. Add the shredded chicken pieces to the kadai and mix them very well along with coriander leaves.



8. Now prepare the batter to make dosas. Mix the flour and salt. Add enough water to make a medium to thin consistency batter.



9. Heat a tawa and keep the flame in medium to low. Now pour one ladle full of batter and make a dosa. Wait till the top layer is cooked. Do not flip.


10. Transfer the dosa to a plate and place 2 tbsp of the stuffing in the middle of the dosa(top part).


11. Fold the sides as shown in the figure and form a box. After folding just press the ends tightly so that the box doesn't open when you fry it.




12. Take 1 egg in a bowl, add 1 tbsp milk,1/4 tsp chilli powder and salt. Beat them well.


13. Now dip the box in the egg for 2 times so that it gets coated very well.


14. Deep fry the boxes till it attains golden color.


15. Serve hot with chai.
