Beef Roast / Beef Semi Gravy


I like beef more than mutton. My mother makes the best beef roast which I will post it soon. Whenever she prepares fried rice, then that beef roast will be the combo. Even now my mouth waters while thinking of it. This is another version of beef roast which goes well with plain rice and rasam. This is kind of semi gravy, so you can even serve with chappathi or Ottadai or Dosa. The marination of the beef is very important. The addition of lemon juice in the marination makes the beef to cook fast. You can adjust the spice levels as per your taste. A tasty beef roast is ready..

Marination Time: 30 mins
Cooking Time: 30 mins
Serves: 3

Ingredients:

Beef- 250 gm
Small Onion/ Shallots- 10
Tomato- 1 big
Green Chilli- 1
Coriander leaves for garnish
Curry Leaves- 1 string
Coconut oil- 2 tbsp
Water- 1/4 cup

To Marinate:

Ginger Garlic Paste- 1 tbsp
Red Chilli powder- 2 tbsp
Turmeric powder- 1 tsp
Fennel powder- 1 tbsp
Garam masala- 1 tsp
Lemon Juice- 2 tsp (optional)
Salt to taste


Procedure:

1. Clean the beef and cut it into small pieces. Marinate them using the spices given under,' To Marinate'.

2. Mix it well and let the beef rest for half an hour. Resting the beef makes it easy to cook.


3. Chop the shallots and tomato.


4. In a pressure cooker, add the marinated beef, small onions, tomato and green chilli.


5. Stir it well. It begins to ooze out water. At this stage add little more water(less than 1/2 cup) so that the meat doesn't gets burnt and pressure cook for 3 whistles.


6. Wait till the pressure releases by itself. Now open the lid and transfer the cooked beef and gravy to a non-stick pan.


7. Keep the flame to medium. Wait till the water evaporates and the gravy becomes thick. Add coriander leaves and curry leaves.


8. When it becomes semi gravy, add coconut oil around the sides.


9. Cook for a minute more. If you want the beef to be dry then cook for few more minutes till you attain the desired consistency.


Beef roast is ready to be served. Serve it as a side dish for rice or chappathi.



Notes:
1. Adding small onions to beef gives thickness to the gravy.
2. Adding shallots compensates the heat produced to the body by beef. Since beef are heat producing food.
3. Adding curry leaves gives you a nice flavor to the beef roast.
